Born in Moscow in 1962, Svetlana Pisarskaya graduated from Moscow Architectural Institute with an MA. She established her own architectural office in 1996 and currently employs three people. She has completed 150 projects including housing schemes, cottages, restaurant interiors, offices and apartments. Svetlana Pisarskaya has won many architectural awards in Russia.

A client asked for a brick church maintaining the architectural standards of a Russian church of the beginning of the twentieth century. It has to be said that the Russian Orthodox Church is very strict in respecting its architectural traditions - they say that it is a extremely lucky when a modern scheme meets its requirements.
| How does diversity of people reveal itself at work? | Our work is a collaboration between the architect's creativity and the ciivil engineer's knowledge. It is the product of teamwork involving designers, artists and builders. |
| Do you think our profession is diverse enough? | It is so diverse that sometimes I have to work as the client's psychotherapist, but more often as a manager. |
| Who are your role models who inspire you? | In my schooldays I was hugely impressed by the Parthenon and Mies van der Rohe's architecture. Now my colleagues inspire me. |
| If you could change one thing in our profession, what would it be? | We lack smart and responsible clients. |
| What do you find most rewarding in your area of work? | My next project. |
| How have your clients and projects benefited from your involvement? | A house is a very private thing: that's why this kind of work can get very emotional. I am happy to see clients fulfilling their ambitions. |
