An organisation for architects and architectural students of Black and Minority ethnic origin, the Society of Black Architects (SOBA) is a not-for-profit organisation founded in June 1990. It arose out of a need to integrate fully the contribution of ethnic-minority professionals as providers and consumers of architectural and design services. It made representation where necessary on behalf of practices and those in education/training. The success of these early efforts is evident in the vibrant organisation.
Involved in education, careers, mentoring, and schools workshops, SOBA aims to create a platform that will foster the articulation of the needs of architects from an ethnic-minority background in education and practice, as they engage the wider public.
